Attendance

Excessive absences, late arrivals/early departures, and/or excessive breaks will jeopardize your enrollment and will slow down your progress in the course. Time lost can not be made up, there are no course extensions.   You have a maximum of three absences per nine-week session.  It is also important to be on time to class; three tardies (more than 10 minutes late to class) equals one absence.  The attendance policy is available online, click here to view it. Be sure to call the class (925/609-7108) or email your instructor if you will be absent or late.

Breaks

Break times are typically 20 minutes for the full-time programs and 10 minutes for the part-time programs.  Your instructor will tell you the specific times when you start class.

Course Extensions

Understand that there are no class extensions.  If a student misses class the time is lost. Students may attend class a maximum of 27 weeks for the Computer Basics and Microsoft Office course and 36 weeks for the Web Design and Development course.  Students must complete all of the required curriculum by their course ending date. Instructors will not review work or issue certificates after a student has completed the course.

Class Supplies

Lectures and mini seminars will be infused throughout your training session.  While the instructor typically provides lecture notes, students should bring the following items to class on a daily basis:  Notepad or binder, pens, pencils, and highlighters.  For the Web page design course it is recommended that you bring a three ring binder to class with separators to store your course handouts, notes, and other relevant materials.

File Management

When new students enter the course they will review Windows.  It is important to understand computer file management.  For additional tips on creating, deleting, moving, copying, and finding files and folders  in the classroom, open and print this handout.  There are also additional file management resources and tutorials at this link

Backing up Your Student Files

You should periodically back up your student files to CD.  Instructions for creating a data CD are here (Word document format).

Ordering Books

All required textbooks are available for purchase in the class.  Books must be ordered one day/class in advance. To order a book, complete a receipt form located in the student area in the front of the classroom and leave it in the basket labeled "Submit Projects Here".  Be sure to complete the entire form including price (a price list is available on the wall above the receipt forms) and total the form.  Use the current date for enrollment date.  Your book/books will be available the next class.  You must order your book one day in advance; we will not issue books on the same day they are ordered.  Please DO NOT  order your books more than one day in advance.

You may also want to check the following Web sites and stores for discounted course books (the ISBN numbers for the books that we use in class can be found on the assignment sheets):
