Access 2007 Complete Concepts and Techniques - Shelly, Cashman, Vermatt - $64.00 - Search to see if you can find this book used.
Estimated hours: 50 to 200 hours depending on text, program, computer experience, knowledge of Windows, and data entry speed.
Additional Resources: You may want to purchase a reference manual for Microsoft Office in addition to your regular text book.
The book will direct you to save and open files from the 3 ½ Floppy. In the classroom we do not use the 3 ½ floppy. Instead we use the network folders.
Ask your instructor to copy the necessary files to your network folder. Save and open files to the network folder rather than using a diskette as suggested in the book. Be certain you are using the appropriate Network Directory (never Drive C:\My Documents) to store and retrieve your files. See ‘Saving a Document’ on the “Assignment Submission Procedures” handout.
Complete all work in text (including Apply Your Knowledge, In the Labs, Web and Integration Features). You do not need to complete Cases and Places following each project.
For Access 2003 Print and submit only In the Lab #3 (City Guide Database) at the end of each Project. For Access 2007 Print and submit only In the Lab #1 (Creating the JMS TechWizards Database) at the end of each Chapter. Do not print the Lab exercises that you do not submit. Instructor will review all other lessons by checking them in your user directory.
Project 2 – Queries must be identified by instruction #, otherwise the project will be returned. Because of the difficulty of the Queries, we have provided you with the correct answers for Lab #3 so you can compare your results.
If you already know Office 2003 you should check out the Interactive Guides for all of the Office 2007 programs. They are very helpful for learning the new Office 2007 interface.
Page AC 12 - You should read the Shelly Cashman Database Design PDF before you begin this chapter.

Pgs. AC 232 - JMS TechWizards Lab - Note this is Lab 2 - Print and submit the Excel and Word files only. Do not print or submit the XPS document.

This is an optional chapter. There is nothing to submit. Ask your instructor if you would like a copy of the Lab solutions.
View all work in “print preview” before printing.
Create a cover sheet for each project, attach lab and submit for review.
Before submitting any work, check it thoroughly for quality. All work should be proofread, legible, spell checked and formatted correctly for data type.
Clearly identify each printout with Project #, Lab #, and instruction # for multiple printouts
If your lesson is returned “See Notes”, you must make all indicated revisions in order to receive credit; you will only have one attempt to correct assignments. Resubmit the original packet with corrections attached. If the project is still incorrect after the second resubmission, you will be given a ‘no credit’. You may not have more than one ‘no credit’ to qualify for a certificate.
Ask your instructor to help you to create an account on the DDC Testing Center. You can use this system to prepare for your assessment and to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist exam if you decide to pursue it.
Certificates are awarded to students who:
Demonstrate effort to learn and problem solve.
Accurately complete all required project labs (one retry is permitted per project).
Receive 80% or better on an industry standard test. Two retries are permitted. ESL students are allowed instructor assistance.
