Estimated hours:  200 hours depending on computer experience, knowledge of Windows, and data entry speed.

Additional Resources:  You may want to purchase a reference manual for Microsoft Office in addition to your regular text book.

General Directions:

  • Be certain to “log in” to the network before you begin any work.
  • The first few times you save and/or print use a Help Sign for additional instructions.
  • An instructor will install the student practice files that go with your book to your network directory.  The files are located in a folder in your user directory called "Office Post Advanced Student Files".  Be certain you are using the appropriate NETWORK DRIVE and DIRECTORY to store and retrieve your files.  Ask if you are unsure.
  • Complete all work in text.  Print and hand in only “In the Lab #3” assignments for each Project. Skip end-of-chapter “Cases and Places”. View all work in “print preview” before printing.
  • Create a cover sheet (see Assignment Submission Procedures) for each project and submit for instructor review.
  • Before submitting any work, check it thoroughly for quality.  All work should be legible, spell checked AND proofread for accuracy, formatted correctly for data type, and it should make sense.
  • Clearly identify each project, lab, and instruction number if there are multiple print outs for a specific lab.
  • If your lesson is returned “See Notes”, you must make all indicated revisions in order to receive credit.  You will have only one attempt to correct assignments.  Resubmit the original packet with the corrections attached.  If the project is still incorrect after the second resubmission, you will be given a ‘no credit’.  You may not have more than one ‘no credit’ to qualify for a certificate.

Program Specific Directions:

If you have not taken Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access in this ROP class, ask your instructor to review the tutorial CDs.

Word:

  • None at this time.

Excel

  • Mark clearly each printout with Project #, Lab #, and instruction # for multiple printouts.

PowerPoint:

  • To conserve paper and toner, please print and submit handout pages on the HP5 printer. Click File > Print > Print What > Handouts > Slides per page 6 > Pure black and white. Do not print builds.  Make a note of assignments with “builds” so the assignment can be checked for that feature.

Access:

  • Mark clearly each printout with Project #, Lab #, and instruction # for multiple printouts.

Certificates

Ask your instructor to help you to create an account on the DDC Testing Center.  You can use this system to prepare for your assessment and to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist exam if you decide to pursue it.

Certificates are awarded to students who:

  1. Demonstrate effort to learn and problem solve.

  2. Accurately complete all required labs (one retry is permitted per project; if errors are included in a second submission, you will receive a “no credit” for that project.  Three or more “no credits” on any application study prevents receipt of a certificate for that application.

  3. Receive 88% or better on an industry standard  test.  Two retries are permitted.

  4. MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) testing is available in class.  Ask your instructor for information on signing-up and the cost of testing.  Tutorial CDs are available for MOS test preparation.  MOS testing is not required for an ROP certificate.

MOS testing requirements can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/officespecialist/requirements.asp#office2000 at Microsoft's Office Specialist site
